M16c Asynchronous Serial Flash Loader
May 18, 2001 Flash Programmer (Flasher®) Renesas Flash Programmer Programming tool for Renesas M16C/20, M16C/62, M16C/80 and 740, 38000, M79, M38, and ST9 series of microcontrollers. This tool allows programming of MCU via synchronous serial interface in circuit only. A target system is required.
SAN JOSE, Calif.--( )--Renesas Technology America, Inc. Today announced a significant expansion of the popular M16C family of 16-bit microcontrollers, adding 12 M16C/64 group models and 20 M16C/65 group models for car audio, home audio, and similar consumer products, as well as industrial applications. The new devices, successors to those in the current M16C/62P group, offer the flexibility customers need to quickly implement system functional enhancements and version upgrades of embedded system designs. The new microcontrollers are fully compatible with the previous-generation products, maximizing the value of customers ’ engineering investments.
The microcontrollers in M16C/64 and M16C/65 groups operate at 2.7V to 5.5V and have a high-performance M16C/60 16-bit CPU core, which enables the use of existing code. Devices in the M16C/65 group operate at speeds up to 35 MHz, 30% faster than the previous generation product, while those in the M16C/64 group run at 25MHz. All of the new devices inherit the M16C family's superior technical capabilities such as excellent electro-magnetic compatibility (EMI/EMS), a low-voltage detection (LVD) circuit, a watchdog timer with an independent oscillator (125kHz) and a critical-register protection feature for enhanced fail-safe condition. Devices in both product groups offer many improvements in the on-chip peripheral functions, which include timers, a fast A/D converter, serial I/O, and DMA controller. The devices ’ 10-bit A/D converter achieves a fast conversion speed of 1.72 µs and offers more channels (26). The new microcontrollers in the M16C/65 group are bolstered by a power-on reset (POR) function, real-time clock (RTC), and high-precision (32MHz ±1.0% or less) on-chip oscillator.
On-chip flash memory is available in densities of 128, 256, and 512Kbytes for microcontrollers in both groups. A higher-density model (768Kbytes) is included in the M16C/65 group. The devices also provide an extra flash memory for data storage: a bank of 8KB data flash with an endurance of 10,000 cycles in both read and write operations.
Asynchronous Serial Connection
Packages are a small 100-pin LQFP (14mm x 14mm) and a 100-pin QFP (14mm x 20mm). A 128-pin LQFP (14mm x 20mm) is also available in the M16C/65 group. General-purpose versions have a -20 to +85 ºC operating temperature range; wide-temperature-range devices operate from -40 to +85 ºC. For efficient system development, Renesas offers the new E8a on-chip debugging emulator, which can also be used as a flash programmer.
